Natural polymer-based multifunctional composites for biomedical applications

Are you interested in the use of natural polymers for developing multifunctional nanocomposites? Do you know that advanced hydrogels play a key role in tissue regeneration? If you are interested in those topics, the Nanoparticles & Nanocomposites (NN) group at The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) is seeking a motivated candidate to join the BIOSOFTREGE project https://nn.icmab.es/projects/ and design sophisticated natural hydrogels and nanoparticles systems for tissue regeneration with a variety of shapes, and topographies while also encompassing biocompatibility, biointegrability, mechanical compliance, stimuli responsiveness or programmed biodegradation profiles.

Position description: The candidate will focus on the study and design of novel bacterial cellulose scaffolds/substrates modified with biopolymers (e.g. polysaccharides) and nanoparticles. The final goal is to produce a functional platform for tissue regeneration, completely characterized and the biological evaluation screened. The research project will be carried out at the NN group.

Job offer: We offer one-year contract with the possibility of extending it further upon performance. Salary range before tax (33.000 – 40.000 /year) depending on experience.

Candidate profile: We seek candidates with a Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Nanotechnology, Chemistry or similar.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical abilities and quick comprehension of new
  • Aptitude for teamwork and excellent communication
  • Ability and willingness to work in multidisciplinary
  • Experience in the following areas would be considered: natural polymers, hydrogels,

Responsibilities:

  • Be part of the research group, working together with biologists and chemists
  • Help to supervise MSc and undergraduate students
  • Design and perform experiments to ensure that the technical solutions adopted meet the established

Application: Interested candidates are welcome to submit their CV with a brief description of their scientific interests to Maite Escobar (mescobar@icmab.es ) before 30th Jan 2024.

Institution: The N&N Group’s research is focused on the rational synthesis of nanoparticles and nanocomposites and the study of their structural-functional properties including those related to the nano/bio interfaces. The group vision is to see our materials impacting on Nanomedicine, Information Technologies, or Energy and Environment. The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) is a multidisciplinary research center focused on cutting-edge research in functional advanced materials from the largest research organization in Spain (CSIC). We are located at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) campus, surrounded by research and technological centers and with access to state-of-the-art equipment and scientific facilities.
